Many of the friends, family, and fans I have spoken with lately have asked about the on-going hunt for my new violin. Well, I am pleased to announce that the six-month search has been successful! My new instrument is a rich, beautiful 2006 Christopher White violin. And no, its name has not ‘come to me’ yet. I’ll be sure to keep you posted, though!
As you may know, my former fiddle, “Hamish”, was generously loaned to me by my former violin teacher, Nancy Eadie. Hamish and I have had a great time growing musically together, but this fall marked a turning point for both of us. With my new life studying music education and violin at McGill University came the understanding that it was time to look for an instrument that would carry me through my university studies.
When I first received Hamish, he hadn’t been seriously played for many, many years. Nancy was lucky enough to find him in a little violin shop in Glasgow on one of her frequent trips to Scotland. In 2004, Nancy loaned Hamish to me, and I played him up until the fall of 2006. Now, Hamish is embarking on new musical adventures with his latest “owner”, another of Nancy’s young, up-and-coming students! I’ll miss him, but I’m looking forward to performing on my new fiddle! I’m sure you’ll like the sound as much as I do!
